Flash drives are less durable than discs (CD DVD ...). A flash drive, like any electronics, has a number of advantages and disadvantages. The main advantages are: relatively low weight, complete absence of noise and any rubbing parts or just movements and, as a consequence, consumption of significantly less energy due to the absence of these moving parts. At the same time, flash drives can work without cooling in a fairly diverse temperature range. Flash drives, unlike CDs, are more resistant to dust and scratches, if a scratch on the surface of a disc can cause serious damage to the information recorded on it or make the disc completely unusable, then a scratch on a USB flash drive is a scratch on the case, a piece of scraped off plastic, no more. The flash drive itself is much smaller than the case and is reliably protected by it. Also, any computer, both modern and "old", has in its arsenal, although usb ports, and a flash drive does not need more. As a result, we get a completely universal product that is resistant to mechanical damage, shaking and vibration, which is compatible with all computers and can work at any temperatures comfortable for humans.

The flash drive can burn out if you simply remove it from the usb port without disconnecting it through Windows. There was a sin behind the flash drives. Although it is too early to say that it was. No tension, no confidence in their work, there is always some kind of flaw, a small deviation, an insignificant, and sometimes quite serious% failure.

A flash drive is an eternal information carrier. Nothing is eternal. If we talk about the problem on the part of the user, then the flash drive is still not so durable. First, it has a limited number of write cycles. According to third-party research, just lying USB stick in "offline mode" can store data for only up to 5 years. More promising samples raise the bar up to 10 years, but nevertheless, this is not enough to obtain the title of the eternal keeper of information. Of course, an ordinary user is unlikely to put a USB flash drive with valuable data somewhere and forget about it for 10 years, so that after living a significant part of the time allotted to him, he will again remember the secrets recorded in the flash drive. But from a global point of view, everything is clear with it ... So we get a good and convenient carrier of information, which, alas, can leave us at any moment. It is impossible to say for sure how many times you can overwrite data on a USB flash drive, it is enough just to know that someday its hour will come and the device itself has its own "expiration date". Although according to world experience, the situation will look like a big piece of rubber - you rather lose or throw away your flash drive before you reach its physical limits.

The speed of writing to CDs is much higher than the speed of writing to flash drives. Yes, most CDs, DVDs are recorded at a higher speed than flash drives. The reason is the relatively low bandwidth of the USB port plus the write speed of the flash drive itself. This compactness comes at the price of a slower write speed. If the DVD drive has a fixed list of speeds, which more or less accurately answers our question about the time, then the same flash drive can spend completely different time on recording the same amount of information on different computers. And it is not the only reason. The version of the USB port characterizes its bandwidth. Further, each manufacturer of the flash drive has its own "copyright" technologies that affect the write speed. Compact discs, as already mentioned, have a fixed write speed, which is several times higher than the speed of writing to a USB flash drive. After all, CDs are recorded by burning tracks and the recording speed is limited only by the speed and accuracy of the laser.

A laser from a CD / DVD drive can burn through an object or cause serious damage to it, because it can burn a disc! The laser does burn through the CD, but not through and through. The burn depth is minimal, otherwise we could feel it, for example, by sliding our finger across the disc. With such a laser, you will not be able to burn through a piece of wood or even a piece of paper. Its power is deliberately cut for the simple reason that those small indentations are quite enough for writing and reading data. But you CANNOT shine such a laser in your eyes. In no case. The absence of visible damage does not mean their absence. Shining such a laser even for a couple of seconds, as a joke, can damage the lens or other component of the eye. In any case, the consequences can range from visual impairment to complete loss of vision. Therefore, be careful, because the manufacturer does not stick the "do not look at the laser" sticker out of boredom. If you want to joke, come up with something safer and possibly more friendly, it is unlikely that the person will laugh with you or thank you for such consequences.

Some programs can be installed directly on a USB flash drive, and then run them on any computer without reinstalling. Yes it is. At the moment there are a lot of programs that are distributed for installation specifically on a USB flash drive. There are a wide variety of programs, instant messaging clients, audio and video editors, and, finally, even operating systems. More about the latter. If the program installed on the flash drive still fits into the norm, then the operating system makes you think. But, everything is not as scary as it seems. Linux releases distributions (installation files) specifically for installation on a USB flash drive. Such a system, oddly enough, will work stably, and since Linux is not so attached to the hardware as Windows, there will be no problems when changing a computer. All installed programs, updates and other additions will be preserved and will work the same way, as if the computer has never been changed. The advantage of this option is that you do not depend on your home or work computer, if you often change the access location and do not want to synchronize your data, message history, etc. for hours, which, by the way, in 90% is possible only manually, then this would be ideal for you. Convenient, simple, fast.

Blu-ray (BD) is the future of disc storage media. It is already replacing CDs and DVDs, and will soon conquer the market altogether. Blu-ray drive will be the same as DVD drive. Blu-ray disc is significantly different from CD and DVD, it is made using a different technology, it has a large capacity, and it is also made of a different material, which means that it is recorded on by other methods. You can't just insert a Blu-ray disc into a regular DVD drive and expect it to work, let alone burn. You just mess it up. Undoubtedly, the hour of Blu-ray discs will come, they have a number of advantages and benefits over DVD, but it is difficult to talk about the timing. There must be a push to start making full use of the technology. Are you going to burn your friends a movie to Blu-ray disc, knowing that they have a DVD drive and they simply won't be able to read your movie? They are unlikely to appreciate your manufacturability. This means that the push must be in another area. In the realm of data. Blu-ray discs range in capacity from several tens of gigabytes to several hundred. Are you going to buy a disc, which is several times more expensive than a DVD, for the sake of recording 1 - 2 movies of 2 gigabytes each? Meaning? After all, a modern DVD with 4.7 GB is enough. Nevertheless, the transition to the new technology has already started and we can only wait.

Blu-ray discs have a capacity of up to 320 gigabytes, and the size is exactly the same as a standard DVD disc. The Blu-ray disc has a diameter of 120 millimeters, the same diameter as DVD. The developers have achieved an increase in spaciousness in several ways. First, they condensed the recording by reducing the distance between tracks. As a result, a more accurate and thinner laser is used. Second, the layers. The layers actually create another surface, equal in capacity to the previous one. If we have a disk with two layers of 50 gigabytes, it means that one layer can hold 25 gigabytes, the second another 25. Developers keep going forward, layering four, eight and even 10 layers. The notorious company TDK personally took on the development of a ten-layer 320 gigabyte Blu-ray disc. Just think, recently a 320 gigabyte hard drive was already a miracle and an object of admiration, now it is enough to buy a disc and you will have the same amount of free space. The pace of development of the computer sphere is sometimes simply terrifying.

Rewritable CD-RW / DVD-RW discs are extremely unreliable, it is better to refrain from using them. Rewritable discs really did not find widespread use and particular popularity among the masses. They are not as bad as they might seem. Quite reliable and comfortable. But with the advent of the flash drive, their use simply lost its meaning. In addition, a rewritable disc has a limited number of rewriting cycles, which is significantly less than on a USB flash drive. The disk takes up more space. It is easier to scratch it by simply losing the box. Rewritable discs are simply bypassed in development, no more. In principle, no one forbids you to use rewritable discs, sometimes inserting a disc into a machine is much safer and more convenient than a USB flash drive. I listened and then re-recorded it. And the mountains of discs listened to are not lying around, and all the current music is always with you. There is no real reason not to use such discs. It's just that with a flash drive you will be much more convenient and comfortable. Also saving time on re-recording. By the way, old information from a rewritable disk is erased many times longer than from a flash drive.

Remote data stores (over the Internet) are highly unreliable. In fact, one of the most reliable places to store important information that is a pity to lose. There are a number of foreign services that provide not just the ability to save individual files, but also entire archives, catalogs, folders. Usually such services provide their own software, which creates a special folder on your computer. This folder will be synchronized with any action, when a new file is added or when it is deleted. This means that you do not need to go to the site, register, upload a file and remember the link. It is enough to copy the file to this folder, and it will be automatically uploaded to the remote storage. How is it convenient? You never know when a virus will manifest itself. After all, especially complex viruses begin to act after waiting a certain period of time, and no antivirus can provide 100% protection. It will be too late to save important files when the virus takes effect. You will simply lose them, in part, because you were too lazy to go to the site and upload them. In our case, it will be enough just to copy the file into a special folder and no viruses will catch you by surprise.

If a virus enters a special folder for files, it will also be uploaded to the remote storage and infect all my files. The file storage has a completely different operating system, which is not afraid of viruses for Windows, since they simply will not work. In addition, file storages have serious anti-virus protection, and especially large "individuals" have many years of experience with similar problems. So you don't have to worry about protecting your data from viruses. The only thing that threatens them is the bankruptcy of the file storage and its global termination of activity. But this is unlikely to happen with the major players in this segment. Therefore, when choosing a file storage, be guided by how long the service has been and how it has proven itself. In addition, you can automatically synchronize information from the storage between your computers, which means that you do not need to drop something every time or bother transferring data through a USB flash drive.

Of course, your files are physically located on the file storage server and you have access to them, but if the storage has a million clients, the administration or the owner from overwhelming boredom, well, a person is tired of driving a Porsche and Bugati, it happens that he will look at files of all users, among whom, by the way, a lot of garbage? There are always fears, but think for yourself, a million, and maybe millions of users who have tons of garbage in the form of text files with quotes from Wikipedia, term papers, abstracts, just incoherent information. Firstly, it will tire anyone, purely physically, a person will not be able to withstand all this. Secondly, who will do this? The employees of this file store? What salaries they should have to process such volumes of information. Absurd. Conclusion - physically your information is not protected, but against the background of the rest it is like a drop in the ocean, no one will ever get to it.

Remote file stores will try in any way to force me to buy paid services from them. They will limit speed, give a minimum of free space, or whatever they come up with. The life of such services is in competition. Unlike domestic file storages, where cutting the speed to a minimum, limiting the size of the uploaded file to 50 or 100 megabytes is the norm, foreign services have gone much further. Having tested the first one that comes across, we get completely free 2 gigabytes for our files, unlimited size and format of the downloaded file, synchronization with a computer through their authoring application, download speed, unlimited download speed and access to files (limited only by your provider). There is only one paid service - an increase in disk space for files. But you must admit that 2 gigabytes in the free version does not in any way look like coercion and does not even hint that it will not be possible to use this service without costs. The only paid service only limits the consumption of disk space, if you start distributing 10 gigabytes to everyone in a row, then no screws will be enough, and each gigabyte is money invested by the authors of the service. After all, enthusiasm alone will not go far, you have to pay for everything, including them.

Combined Blu-ray / DVD discs are under development. JVC really had the idea to make a 2 in 1 CD. On one side, the proposed disc will have DVD coverage, and on the other, Blu-ray. Obviously, such a move will be an attempt to smoothly prepare people for Blu-ray technology, to bring it to the masses. A person will buy a DVD that is compatible with their current drive, but will be forced to at least ask what kind of Blu-ray it is.Although the very appearance of such disks in the store will inform the masses about the intentions of the technology to win the first position among disk storage media. In other words, we get a profitable PR move, spread to the masses, and possibly the promotion of technology as such. Agree that it is much easier to release such discs than to advertise, arrange some kind of conferences and presentations. It is much easier to let the person touch the Blu-ray disc for himself without depriving him of the opportunity to use the DVD. It would be a shame not to use the second part, wouldn't it? A person will record something on Blu-ray, with friends or someone else. At the same time, he will see that much more of his favorite music or films fit on this surface. The result of such a scheme is obvious.
