With the development of electronics, society was captured by a real boom in photographic equipment. If earlier the camera was an attribute of real fans who were ready to carefully plan a shot, and then in dark closets to develop film, print photos, today many people take hundreds of photos a day without printing them at all.

After all, it is enough to rewrite pictures from a flash drive to an electronic medium. And many photo studios allow you to quickly and inexpensively print your favorite picture.

Hundreds of models of digital devices appeared, affordable for everyone in terms of price and functionality. A beginner photographer does not need to know something about shutter speed, color rendition and other intricacies - after all, the camera processor will automatically select the necessary parameters in automatic mode.

The dramatic expansion of the possibilities of photography and the market for its application entailed a lot of myths, both about creativity itself and about the tools of implementation. Consider the main myths about photography that are prevalent in society.

Photo quality is determined by the number of megapixels. In fact, the number of megapixels is largely a marketing concept, determining the price of the camera, and the size of the photo. But the quality is determined by the quality of the optics and the size of the matrix. Often a device with a smaller number of megapixels, but good optics, is more expensive than a "soap dish" with seemingly better performance. Since the size of the matrices is actually the same, and the physical size of the cell is larger for the camera with less megapixels. And this trend remains unchanged, devices with a large lens remain on the market, while super-compact models are rapidly falling in price, or are giving up their niche to updated devices with additional megapixels. This situation does not occur on the professional equipment market.

Truly high-quality photos can only be taken with a DSLR. Compared to conventional compact cameras, DSLRs look solid, although creative vision and skillful hands are the best tools for high-quality photography. Technique does not replace the skill of the photographer, but only complements it. Many photographers use uncomplicated cameras and minimal gadgets. The advantages of a DSLR camera are obvious - they are less noise, the ability to use new lenses, better image processing, better processors, and so on. But only that the price is appropriate. It is better to study your compact in detail and learn how to make decent shots with it, than to spend a lot of money on a DSLR, not knowing how to take pictures properly, but expecting that she will do it herself, in automatic mode. And with such a camera you won't go to a party where you need a quick and sometimes imperceptible photo. Are you ready to take an expensive device with you on a trip? The SLR allows you to take thoughtful photos, but do you always need it specifically for you?

It is preferable to choose a camera with a high sensitivity (ISO) so that you can shoot in dark rooms, at night or at dusk. It is suggested to many that a high ISO level will make it possible to take high-quality night photographs on a conventional digital camera with a 1 / 2.5 ”matrix. Cameras have already appeared that allow you to set ISO 1600. In fact, you need a tripod for shooting in such conditions. With its help and at minimum sensitivity, it is quite possible to create a high-quality photo, but with a high ISO on such a camera, significant noise will certainly appear, so this mode turns out to be practically useless.

The larger the optical zoom, the better. In reality, the opposite is true. Truly high quality lenses are either prime lenses or have a small focal length range. With a zoom, be prepared for possible distortion - vignetting and distortion, as well as possible chromatic aberrations. So when choosing an ultrazoom, think carefully - is it really needed? One of such cases may be shooting birds, but you should not expect high-quality shooting of portraits and landscapes from a long distance. In the case of a DSLR, buying a telephoto and a wide-angle will solve this problem.

It is better to choose a camera with as many functions as possible. Today, manufacturers are equipping the camera with completely strange functions, like drawing with a stylus on the screen, playing games or satellite navigation. In fact, the main purpose of the camera is to take pictures. If these functions do not have a direct need for work, then it is better to choose something not burdened with such a set, but cheaper. If you want a glamorous toy, it is better to buy a phone - it is more compact and there is usually a camera there.

It is better to purchase a soap dish with Leica or Carl Zeiss optics - proven brands. Of course, it's so nice to boast that the camera has branded optics. Indeed, these companies produce a large number of high-quality, but also expensive lenses. But when you buy a device for $ 200, you will not find anything supernatural there, while the surcharge for the brand can become all tangible.

Photographic equipment (lenses, flashes, flash drives) of one of the companies is better than photographic equipment of another company. In fact, any manufacturer occupies its own niche in the market, otherwise the company would simply go bankrupt under the cruel laws of the market.

The more expensive the camera is, the better it can shoot. This statement is only partially true. When buying a camera, you need to understand whether you are spending money for the quality of optics, for useful functions, or for design, decoration and versatility. Today the market offers ultra-compacts, the size of a business card, which are comparable in price to budget DSLRs, but the quality of their images cannot be compared. In the case of a DSLR, it is a camera that is purchased, and in the case of an ultra-compact - an image and fashion element. Today advertising presents such devices even as an accessory to clothing.

Professional photography is possible only with the help of film, digital technology - for amateurs. The fact that photography giants Canon and Nikon have stopped producing film cameras altogether destroys this myth completely. And the highest-paid photographers have been working with digital for a long time, for example, the most "expensive" photographer David LaChapelle uses a digital back, and it is difficult to blame him for unprofessionalism. Indeed, high-quality images come out on the slide, but you should not discount the dignity of digital photography. Progress does not stand still; in the past, fans of radio performances denied the advantages of television, reporters were skeptical about reportage photographs, and so on. Today, what previously seemed inappropriate has already firmly entered our life, turning the old methods into exotic.

An amateur camera can mess up the frame at any time. Following the same logic, a cheap car will surely stall at the first traffic light. But people successfully drive not only on Mercedes. But also on Zhiguli. Also with cameras. You just need to be able to use the technique, know its advantages and disadvantages. You can also advise you to still use takes, because an automatic error can occur in the most expensive equipment.

Only amateurs use the JPEG format. Most digital cameras send data in this format. The photo is processed by the processor of the device, compressed and the well-known JPEG is obtained. Of course, many professionals prefer to work with raw RAW format, but today fewer and fewer cameras offer the possibility of displaying information in this form. JPEG is much more widespread, compact, of fairly high quality, and allows you to make the necessary changes to images, albeit smaller than in RAW. So many professionals shoot in JPEG, all the more advanced devices provide very high quality images.

Truly professional images should be in black and white. First of all, it is worth mentioning that the human eye is able to perceive tens of millions of shades, which, by the way, exceeds the color rendering capabilities of modern monitors. Europe has long since switched to HD television, full-color digital printing, but in Russia black and white photography is still cultivated. Many photographers simply bury their talent in the ground, limiting themselves to the gray scale, not perceiving the possibility of color in the photo in principle. Of course, no one denies the necessity and importance of working with black and white, it is important to initially learn to work with these colors in order to understand the composition of the photograph, the harmony of lines. However, this should only be the first step in working with color. Black and white photos are a very expressive technique with the help of which genuine masterpieces are created, but these are only exceptions, because our world is colored, why deliberately abandon all of its completeness? And in commercial photography, color photography will always be more in demand, as gloss and advertising require it, and black and white photography can become a "highlight", but it cannot dominate. For many aspiring photographers, black and white is a way to hide mistakes when shooting - poor background, color noise, variegation, or mistakes in photomontage. It is easy to use this technique, but on this path you cannot create a really high-quality photo that will find its buyer.

Professional photography is too difficult to understand. All directions that appear in painting, all diseases of this art are inherent in photography. There are classics, and there are innovators, there are those who study, and there are those who shamelessly steal, there are even masters who create something incomprehensible neither to themselves, nor to those around them. You can make a regular portrait, distort it as much as possible with effects in Photoshop, then make it black and white and smudge it. And you can shoot at night with a two-minute exposure, while waving the camera. In this case, naturally, photography will receive a deep philosophical and obscure name. Impression and surrealism in photography exist from the very beginning; this brings new colors to the viewer's perception of reality. But along the way, people look at such "masterpieces" and logically perceive this as a highly professional photographic art. It is not surprising that many also tend to use ill-conceived techniques to create an unusual picture. So the photo should be thought out, but a really professional shot should still be understandable to most people.

Only in the studio can they take a professional photo. It is usually believed that if a photographer is a professional, then he must certainly have his own studio. Although, of course, it is still unknown how well a person works in this very studio. True professionals say that it is necessary to work regularly in the studio, but you cannot limit your creativity to this. Of course, in the studio you can learn such important things as staging light, building a frame, but no one will teach you really important skills to catch light and frame in life. After all, it is not staged photos that are especially appreciated, but life ones - without embellishment, without a thoughtful background, in dynamics.

Professional photography is casual. Many people believe that if you take a lot of photos in a short time, you will definitely get a good shot. But with such an approach, any person on Earth would have become a photographer for a long time - after all, just pressing a button is easy. You can recall the phrase that the best improvisation is the one that is prepared in advance. Similarly, in the case of photography, in order to accidentally catch a good shot, good preparation is necessary.

Professional photography must be compositional. You can often hear sarcastic comments about photography about an unprofessional composition, or even its complete absence. This stereotype is not only wrong, but also harmful. In fact, composition is a connection between objects; it is always present in an image. Even a blank white sheet contains composition, although it is difficult to both prove and disprove. So feel free to choose the composition that you or those around you like, this will already be the first step in mastering the basics of photography.

Professional photography is necessarily commercial. A commercial photographer is, first of all, a businessman, because he needs to sell his work to a customer. You don't have to be a truly professional photographer for this, the main thing is that the customer is satisfied with the quality. On the other hand, a photographer who has not sold any of his works can hardly be considered a professional either - otherwise there would be someone willing to acquire his works.

Any photo can be corrected with Photoshop. Often, doing photomontage and retouching, the artist forgets about the most important thing - about the content of the picture. Of course, any serious editor will fix most of the flaw, but the lack of an idea of individuality in photography will no longer fix any software product.

In photography it is generally better to do without Photoshop. But this myth is the other extreme, it is instilled by those who advocate the documentary frame. However, when producing, say, a custom-made portrait, it is better to remove bruises or bags under the customer's eyes, even if you see a highlight in this. But what can I say - the whole world of advertising glossy photos has been processed by photo editors, which is why they look at us from the covers of beauties with perfect skin and figure.

There are certain rules for photography. If you read a lot of smart books with rules or strictly follow the advice of experienced people, then, undoubtedly, you will avoid many mistakes, only at the same time you risk not creating something unusual and new. Only a photographer chooses methods and techniques, to take a picture according to the general canons or according to his own methods, with the opportunity to become a pioneer. The most talented and unexpected photos belong to those talented people who did it, though thoughtfully, but in their own way.
