School (Latin schola - place of learning) is an educational institution for teaching, education and upbringing of children, youth and adults.
Many memories are associated with each of us with the word "school". And, unfortunately, not all these memories are as joyful and bright as we might like. Maybe this is why parents who feel confident at home, at work, when communicating with friends, within the walls of educational institutions automatically pull their heads into their shoulders, become silent, shy, constrained? For reasons that are not entirely clear, they are convinced that the teacher is one hundred percent correct, and, having come home after the parent meeting, "take action" towards the child who was awaiting their return with horror. Sometimes there is a diametrically opposite approach - parents, taking their child to school, completely remove themselves from the role of an educator, believing that professional teachers will do it for them, replace the mother's love, the father's authority, and the spacious school corridors are quite suitable for the role of a "second home" for their children.
Around general education and private schools, many myths and misconceptions (sometimes diligently imposed by the media and notorious public opinion) have been created about what an educational institution of one type or another should be, about the role of the teacher in a child's life, about the role of the family in his education and schools in education. So what is a school - a home or just a place for learning? What qualities should a teacher have, can he be wrong? Where is it better to teach children - in general education or in private schools? We will try to answer all these questions in the process of debunking the most famous myths about the school.
If a child does not like it at school, he will definitely tell about it. This is not entirely true, especially if we are not talking about a physical negative impact, but about discomfort of a different kind (fears, insecurity, complexes) that many children are exposed to, especially "home" children who are not as adapted to work in a team as the kids who attended Kindergarten. Sometimes the child does not complain about his grief and anxiety (because he simply does not find the right words), but this is clearly signaled by changes in his behavior. For example, your son returns from school sluggish, does not share his impressions, or a previously healthy child regularly complains of malaise (stomach pain, headache) in the morning before going to school. There may be overexcitement, motor disinhibition, irritability, etc., which are only symptoms of tension that weighs on the first grader.
Stress awaits the child only at school. Unfortunately, this is not the case. We will not mention how difficult the life of children growing up in families of drug addicts, alcoholics, etc. is. Let's dwell on the problem of "morning stress", which most parents, in a hurry, simply do not notice. It should be noted that it is unacceptable to wake up the child abruptly - it is better to start this process early and stretch for ten minutes. It is also worth refraining from elevated tones - and then the process of transition from sleep to wakefulness will be painless.
The child must have breakfast. Of course, if the child himself wants it. Food forcibly "fed" to the baby will bring little benefit to the body, and even worse the mood. It should be remembered that peace of mind (especially in the morning) is much more important for your child than calories.
School can literally become a second home for children. This is not entirely true - the school has slightly different laws. Therefore, it would be more correct to say that school for a child is a duty, a job, and not always interesting and exciting, and sometimes unpleasant. But you can't do without it, so you just have to be patient and do your duty.
A teacher for a child is a second mother. Misconception. Of course, the role of a teacher requires mercy, kindness and sympathy, intelligence, tact, but the merging of souls and the mother's selfless love from the teacher should not be expected.
Like parents, the teacher wishes the child only good and wants to make him happy. This is not entirely true. It should be remembered that the mission of a teacher is, first of all, to protect students from vices, to provide children with knowledge, skills, and skills that will be useful to them in the future. So the desire to make the child happy, as well as the ability to wish only good for the beloved child is the prerogative of the parents.
The teacher is never wrong. No, like all people, the teacher is by no means free from prejudices and delusions. And some features of the teacher's character (not always positive) and personal problems can somewhat distort the correct perception of one or another of your child's actions.
Only children of wealthy parents can study in private schools. After all, tuition fees in private schools fluctuate in a fairly wide range (from sixty to five hundred dollars and more), so even people with an average income level can find an educational institution "affordable" for their child.
"Problem" children study in private schools. Indeed, it is precisely the children who do not take root in the state school that end up in private schools. But not all of them are lazy or truant and disciplinary breakers. Some students with poor health can only practice in a special, gentle mode. Others find it difficult to get along with people, experience discomfort in a large team, and feel great in a small class of a private school. Still others who are seriously interested in sports, music, etc. (or those experiencing difficulties in mastering a particular school subject) need classes on a special schedule. And there are children who want (and have the ability) to complete the school course faster than their peers.
In a private school they teach in the same way as in a public one - no better. If you have chosen the right type of private school, i.e. have taken into account the personality traits and needs of your child (a full-time school psychologist can help you with this), you can be sure that the level of knowledge of your child will be much higher than the level of knowledge of the average student of a public school. Indeed, in a private school, where there are from two to five people in a class, it is much easier for a teacher to find an individual approach to each student, to help a child fill in the "gaps" in knowledge. And the material base of such educational institutions, as a rule, is better than in ordinary schools.
